Dad's Schoolmaster's Joke

National anthem of the country now known as Thailand:

Wha Ta Nar Siam

You have to say it out loud. I think he said his geography teacher told him this in the 1950s, at Sir Walter St John's Grammar School in Wandsworth.

  1. I remember when naughty boys would write this on the blackboard when we thought a new teacher would come in and read it aloud. I'd be in the Mixed Infants when your dad was at grammar school but the joke stayed around a long time. There's a longer version by The Two Ronnies to the tune of God Save The Queen. It's probably on youtube.
Condolences to you, your mum and the family as you remember your dad particularly at this time of year.

  2. Thank you kindly. The anniversary of his death is the 8th - as also, the following year, of Baroness Thatcher!

  3. For shame. You made me laugh on Good Friday, though I think Jesus might not mind.
